[origin: EP0477467A2] The invention relates to a cooler with slidable grates, having fixed and moveable grate plates following one another in the conveying direction of the cooler and in each case being arranged next to one another in rows running transversely to the conveying direction, a grate-plate support for holding at least the grate plates of in each case one row being provided. In the individual grate-plate rows, in each case only individual grate plates, preferably only one single grate plate in the centre of the row, is firmly connected to the associated grate-plate support, whereas the grate plates, following the fixed grate plate on both sides, of the same row are firmly connected only to the fixed grate plate, but are relatively moveable with respect to the grate-plate support under the influence of temperature.
