[origin: EP0477477A2] An apparatus for fluid transfer having a housing (70) adapted to be mounted on a container (11) adapted to house fluid, a valve (50) mounted with the housing operable in a normal first attitude to seal the container therethrough and adjustable to a second attitude to permit fluid to pass through the valve and a mechanism (51) engageable with the valve to move the valve to the second attitude for the transfer of the fluid therethrough and wherein the housing (70) is recessed within a portion of the container so as to protect it from damage. This apparatus is well suited for transfering hazardous or toxic substances in such a manner to preclude the risk of contamination. <IMAGE>
