[origin: EP0477535A2] The invention relates to a data carrier, in particular an identity card, a security or the like, in which a flat element (OVD) is applied which has optically variable effects depending on the viewing angle. Provided within at least one defined region of the OVD, between the OVD and the surface of the data carrier, is additional information in the form of characters, patterns or the like which, when applied to the OVD later, superimpose the optically variable effect of the OVD and are likewise visually recognisable. Furthermore, a method of manufacturing such a data carrier is described. <IMAGE>

At this section additional data in the form of letters, strips, patterns etc, is applied subsequently.
