[origin: EP0478820A1] A printer or copier for printing simplex and duplex copies in one or more colours contains a belt-shaped photoconductor as an intermediate carrier (10) with associated electrophotographic processing devices for generating toner images on the intermediate carrier (10). First and second print transfer stations (U1, U2) each with a belt-shaped transfer element are arranged on the two sides of a transport channel (K). The toner images are transferred onto the transfer elements (16) in transfer areas (T) and in print transfer areas (UB1, UB2) onto recording carriers transported in the transporting channel. Photoconductive belts or adhesive transfer belts serve as transfer elements. There is a thermoprinting fixing station (FX) arranged downstream of the print transfer area. The recording carrier is fed sideways to an equipment area bounded by the intermediate carrier (10) and the transfer elements (16), is deflected there and fed linearly through the print transfer area and the fixing station (FX). <IMAGE>
