Abstract (en)

[origin: EP0478921A1] The invention relates to a method and an apparatus for carrying it out, according to the pre-characterising clause of Claim 1. <??>The object of the invention is to provide a method and an apparatus for carrying it out, by means of which a continuous streak-free intensive moistening of the article to be treated, for example textile webs and the like, can be carried out at a comparatively high speed of the latter. <??>This object is achieved, by the method according to the invention, in that the textile web (3) is moistened by two continuously moistened permeable backcloths (2, 4) which are arranged on both sides of this and at least one (4) of which exerts compressive forces on the textile web by tension, the textile web and the two backcloths being subjected to vacuum treatment. <??>The apparatus according to the invention is characterised in that there is a cylindrical rotatable drum (1) which can be connected to a vacuum source and has a perforated outer surface and against which one backcloth bears, the other backcloth being an endless pressure band which bears against the part of the textile web looping round the drum.
