[origin: WO9100534A1] The invention concerns a process for the production of a low-loss optical waveguide in an epitaxial silicon film of a silicon structural element with integrated electronic components in a silicon substrate. Between the silicon substrate and the epitaxial silicon film is an insulating film. The epitaxial film consists of silicon-on-insulator (SOI) material, which is an uncommon material. In order to carry out this process relatively cheaply, a weakly doped epitaxial silicon film (2) is applied to the silicon substrate (1). A substance containing an element of group IV in the periodic table, having a refractive index with a real component higher than that of silicon, is diffused into the epitaxial silicon film.

Procédé de fabrication d'un guide d'ondes optique à pertes réduites dans une couche épitaxiale en silicium. Selon un procédé connu de fabrication d'un guide d'ondes optique à pertes réduites dans une couche épitaxiale en silicium d'un composant en silicium à éléments électroniques intégrés dans un substrat en silicium, une couche isolante est agencée entre le substrat en silicium et la couche épitaxiale en silicium. La couche épitaxiale se compose d'un matériau de type "silicium sur l'isolateur", qui est un matériau rare. Afin de pouvoir mettre en oeuvre de façon relativement économique un procédé de fabrication d'un guide d'ondes optique à pertes réduites, on applique une couche épitaxiale en silicium (2) faiblement dopée sur le substrat en silicium (1). On diffuse dans la couche épitaxiale en silicium une substance contenant un élément du groupe IV de la classification périodique des éléments ayant une composante réelle de l'indice de réfraction plus élevée que celle du silicium.
