[origin: EP0480117A1] The rope lifting and lowering apparatus has a base plate (1) to which a rope lowering pulley (2) mounted in a freely rotating manner and having a pawl stop is fastened. A toothed ring (7) is fastened to the side of the rope lowering pulley facing the base plate. The teeth (7a) of the toothed ring (7) interact with a pawl (9) in such a way that in the free-wheeling direction the pawl is lifted and in the locking direction the pawl clamps the toothed ring or the rope lowering pulley in position. The pawl is let into the base plate. <IMAGE>
