[origin: EP0481323A1] To feed a production machine with strip material from a coil (2, 15), an unwinding station (1) is provided in which the coil (2, 15) is unwound with its axis (5) vertical, i.e. while lying in a horizontal plane. As a result, the strip (4) drawn off from it lies in a vertical plane and, for the production machine, must be twisted through 90 DEG in a twisting section (20). In order to avoid internal stresses in the strip (4), the strip (4) is centred with respect to the centre axis (M) of the production machine before twisting is carried out, centring being performed in a centring device (6). <IMAGE>
