Abstract (en)

[origin: EP0406765A1] The invention concerns a process for the operation of a slow-running multi-cylinder diesel engine, in which a first mean rpm value n &cir& NOt , averaged over virtually the whole of the engine cycle, is determined, as well as a second mean rpm value n alpha averaged only over a sector of the cycle corresponding to the distance between two top dead centres. This sector is staggered by an rpm-dependent angle with respect to the top dead centre. The difference n* - n &cir& NOt in rpm is controlled by a slow-acting controller and the difference n*-n alpha is controlled by a quick-acting controller. Both controllers act on the fuel-injection parameters. The slow-acting controller produces only small changes in fuel admission while the quick-acting controller enables action to be taken rapidly in the event of a fault occurring.
