[origin: EP0482316A1] In a potato harvester having a screening and conveying chain (2) ascending rearwards after the swath pick-up device (8), and furthermore having a leaf chain (9) which follows the screening and conveying chain and which rotates round a separating band extending transversely, the separating band consists of two separating-band portions (1a; 1b) conveying in opposite directions from the middle to the sides. These separating-band portions (1a; 1b) are designed for throwing off the undesirable constituents on different sides of the machine and for transferring the potatoes onto respective following conveying and sorting bands (4a; 4b) extending forwards from the rear. The split design of the separating band results in an especially clean separation between leaves, undesirable constituents and potatoes, even on four-row versions of the potato harvester with double the crop quantity in comparison with a two-row version. <IMAGE>
