[origin: EP0482475A1] The invention relates to a process and an apparatus for detaching a lap start (9) from a lap roll (4). To follow up with a new lap roll (4), it is known to detach the new lap start (9) of the new lap roll (49) from the roll automatically by suction or blowing off. The set object of the invention is to improve the processes and apparatuses known hitherto. It is proposed, in order to detach the lap start (9), to generate over at least the lap width (B) and at a distance from the periphery (P) of the lap roll (4) an airstream (S) which leads to the lap roll approximately tangentially and in the unrolling direction (A). In the apparatus proposed for this, a tubular nozzle (10) having an air discharge slit (16) directed to the lap roll (4) approximately tangentially and in the unrolling direction (A) is arranged over at least the lap width (B) and at a distance from the periphery (P) of the lap roll. <IMAGE>
