On a packaging machine (1) for the packaging of articles with the aid of a foil sheet (7) with a number of stations lying one behind the other, in which both lower tools (16) as well as upper tools are active, a complex protection device is provided which consists of several parts - a vertical end plate (22) positionally fixed on the lower tool (16), a horizontal protective flap (24) which is positionally fixed on the packaging machine (1) but which can be pivoted upwards, and vertical longitudinal plates (28) fixed on the side faces (13) of the packaging machine (1) - which parts, according to the invention are adapted to one another in such a way that even a deliberate intervention of the operating personnel in the work area during operation is reliably prevented. The protection device is of very short constructional length and also protects the inlet and outlet side of each lower tool. If the protective flap (24) is moved from its horizontal position, then the main circuit of the packaging machine (1) is interrupted. <IMAGE>

An einer Verpackungsmaschine (1) für die Verpackung von Gegenständen mit Hilfe einer Folienbahn (7) mit mehreren hintereinanderliegenden Stationen, bei denen sowohl Unterwerkzeuge (16) als auch Oberwerkzeuge wirksam werden, ist eine komplexe Schutzvorrichtung vorgesehen, die aus mehreren Teilen - einem senkrechten, am Unterwerkzeug (16) ortsfesten Stirnblech (22), einer waagerechten, an der Verpackungsmaschine (1) ortsfesten, aber nach oben schwenkbaren Schutzklappe (24) und senkrechten, an den Seitenwangen (13) der Verpackungsmaschine (1) festen Längsblechen (28) - besteht, die erfindungsgemäß so aufeinander abgestimmt sind, daß selbst ein vorsätzliches Eingreifen des Bedienungspersonals in den Arbeitsbereich während des Betriebes sicher vermieden wird. Die Schutzvorrichtung ist von sehr kurzer Baulänge und sichert auch die Einlauf- und Auslaufseite jedes Unterwerkzeuges ab. Wird die Schutzklappe (24) aus ihrer waagerechten Lage entfernt, dann ist der Hauptstromkreis der Verpackungsmaschine (1) unterbrochen. <IMAGE>
