Abstract (en)

[origin: EP0485285A1] At least one bistable element (16) is contained in an evacuated enclosure formed of a first and of a second substrate (10, 12) which are hermetically sealed between them; each bistable element (16) comprises on the first substrate (10) a first layer of a conductive material (18), a layer of photoconductive material (20), a layer of a cathodoluminescent material (22), and moreover a means (26) of exciting the cathodoluminescent material; a screen of the invention includes several bistable elements (16) arranged matrixlike; in one embodiment, the photoconductive material (20) links two layers of conductive material, the one (18) constituting a conductive column of the screen, the other (24) delimiting the geometry of the pixel. <??>Application to the production of electrooptical memories and to high-definition displaying. <IMAGE>
