Abstract (en)

[origin: EP0485718A2] In a process for lacquering the phosphor layer on the bowl of a colour display tube (colour picture tube) screen, the following steps are performed: - the phosphor layer is first pre-wetted, - a first aqueous dispersion of a lacquer is applied to the pre-wetted phosphor layer, - said first dispersion is completely dried and heated to above the film-forming temperature of the lacquer in order to produce a first lacquer film, - a second aqueous dispersion containing identical components to the first dispersion is applied directly to the first lacquer film, the concentration of the components in the second dispersion being at least essentially equal to the concentration of the components in the first dispersion, and - said second dispersion is completely dried and heated to above the film-forming temperature of the lacquer in order to produce a second lacquer film. This double lacquering process enables screen brightnesses to be achieved which are about 10% higher than were achievable with the hitherto conventional, single lacquering process. <IMAGE>
