Abstract (en)
A waveguide-type optical device of the invention has a dielectric substrate (34), wave-guiding paths (36,38) formed in the dielectric substrate, a buffer layer (46) provided on the substrate (34), a semiconducting layer (48) formed on the buffer layer (46) and electrodes (40,42) arranged on the semiconducting layer (48) to produce an operation-controlling electric field for the wave-guiding paths (36,38). Carrier capture layers (44,50) having traps are formed in the buffer layer (46) in the proximity of the electrodes (40,42), respectively. <IMAGE>
