[origin: EP0486723A1] A heating unit with belt transport includes a first electromotively driven endless belt (35/1), assigned to a front side of an image carrier (33), as well as a second electromotively driven endless belt (35/2), assigned to a rear side of the image carrier (33). The endless belts (35/1, 35/2) are arranged opposite each other in such a way that a heating channel (36) for the image carrier (33) is formed, which channel extends from an entrance area up to an exit area and in which the image carrier (33) is heated and fixed. For heating, the endless belts (35/1, 35/2) are led over a heating saddle (41). The heating unit can be used both as a preheating device and as a fixing unit for image carriers of any type in printing or copying machines.
