[origin: EP0486814A1] The wet end of a twin-wire paper machine is provided with an open forming roller (1) in the lower wire and a combination of suction boxes (2) in the lower wire (9) and vacuum suction boxes (4) in the upper wire. In this case, furthermore, the choice of the levels of the individual wire portions provides particularly advantageous conditions for the operation of the paper machine in a wide range of applications, in particular heavy types at low speeds.
