[origin: EP0486855A1] To produce an engraved roller for an inking unit of an offset rotary printing machine, a layer consisting of an ink-receptive material is applied to the roller core. Grooves are introduced into this layer. To form wear-resistant ridges, a wear-resistant hard material, completely filling the grooves, is applied and cells are introduced into the layer made of the ink-receptive material. The thickness of the ink-receptive layer exceeds the depth of the cells. <IMAGE>
