[origin: EP0486884A1] The invention relates to a method for making hybrid yarn from thermoplastic fibres and reinforcing fibres, the fibres in each case per se being spread out to give a tape and the two tapes being passed together over rollers or rods and homogeneously mixed. The spreading is carried out in such a way that the reinforcing fibre tape is wider by 20 to 100% than the thermoplastic fibre tape. The hybrid yarn can be dressed and processed to give material which can be pressed to give composite fibre materials.
