[origin: EP0488068A2] In a process for manufacturing foundry moulds from free-flowing moulding material, in particular foundry sand, which is contained in a filling container and is moved by means of the latter into a moulding station and there transferred into the moulding box, good quality of the mould, particularly in the region close to the pattern, is achieved by virtue of the fact that at least some of the moulding material in the filling container is screened prior to or during the transfer to the moulding box and is transferred to the moulding box as undersize while the remaining, unclassified quantity is used for filling up the moulding box. A device for carrying out the process is distinguished by the fact that the filling container has a screen which holds back the moulding material and a device for setting the moulding material in motion and that the screen can be moved into a position for transfer of the screening residue to the moulding box.
