[origin: EP0489646A1] The invention relates to a method for positioning a continuous lid foil web (12) before sealing it onto a continuous container assembly (40), characterised in that the following stages are carried out repeatedly and consist in: - advancing the container assembly in line with a sealing means (50) at a pace equal to a longitudinal pace of containers or to a multiple of this pace, - simultaneously releasing the lid foil web over a length equal to a longitudinal pace of lid foils slightly greater than the longitudinal pace of containers or than the same multiple of this pace, the said web being driven by the container assembly, - in line with the sealing means, exerting a deformation on a central zone of each lid foil so as to move the boundaries between as yet unsealed lid foils in order to bring them into a superposed position with respect to the equivalent container boundaries. <IMAGE>
