[origin: WO9103915A1] An infra-red radiation emission arrangement includes a primary source of short or medium wavelength infra-red radiation and a substrate of thermally insulating material. In operation of the arrangement, radiation from the primary source is incident on a surface of the substrate which is spaced apart from the primary source. The short or medium wavelength infra-red radiation from the primary source is absorbed by and heats the surface which emits radiation at wavelengths in the medium or long wavelength infra-red as determined by the temperature of the infra-red absorptive material.
