[origin: EP0490090A1] With this safety brake device, overspeeds of an elevator cabin or of a counterweight in the down direction are avoided. On its front side, a housing (1) has a recess (2) which extends over the entire housing height and on one end of which a brake plate (3) is arranged which has a free leg (4) plunging next to it. A trapezoidal stirrup (6) with a rectangular extension (7) projecting from the housing (1) is inserted into the part of the recess (2) adjoining the leg (4). On the guide-rail side, the stirrup (6) has a slotted link (9) running up at an angle and having a U-shaped cross-section. The two end faces of the slotted link (9) serve as rolling paths for roller spindles (12) arranged on a cylindrical catch roller (11). A camber in the form of an additional inclined control face (13) is provided in the lower part of the slotted link (9), with which camber the catch roller (11) is guided more quickly to the free leg (4). The recess (2) ends with an inclined wedge surface (14) on the side opposite the brake plate (3). The stirrup (6) bears on the inclined wedge surface (14). A longitudinal slot (15) running vertically through the stirrup (6) and deep into the extension (7) gives the stirrup (6) the necessary elasticity. <IMAGE>
