[origin: WO9200874A1] The device comprises a layer of sound absorbing material having passages (4) passing therethrough to allow air circulation, and elements for fixing said layer at a predetermined distance (E) away from the inside wall of a hull so that it acts as an acoustic baffle therefor. The baffle allows free air convection through the passages in the layer and through the space formed between the hull and the layer so as to allow the air to be cooled by an exchange of heat with the water which is in contact with the outside of said hull. The device can be used to improve the silence of military submarines.

Le dispositif comprend un lit d'un matériau acoustiquement absorbant percé de passages (4) autorisant une circulation d'air à travers le lit et des moyens de fixation du lit à une distance prédéterminée (E) de la paroi intérieure de la coque de manière que ce lit constitue un écran acoustique pour la coque du navire, cet écran autorisant une libre convection de l'air dans les passages traversant le lit et dans l'espace ménagé entre la coque et le lit pour assurer un refroidissement de l'air par échange thermique avec l'eau mouillant l'extérieur de la coque. Application à l'amélioration de la discrétion acoustique d'un sous-marin militaire.
