[origin: EP0491155A1] A hydraulic directional valve (10) for controlling a hydraulic motor (11) is proposed with which the volumetric flow running off from the hydraulic motor to the tank can be controlled independently of load pressure by means of a stop valve (47) which can be hydraulically relieved and protects the hydraulic motor. The stop valve (47) has a control edge (52, 62) suitable for restricting the volumetric flow, and the spool (19), deflected by a proportional magnet (24) against the force of a spring (22), has a control recess (41) which works as a measuring orifice and which, during excessive intermediate pressure upstream of the measuring orifice, closes the spool (19) in a controlled manner by flow forces acting in a closing manner, in the course of which a restriction edge (43) coupled to the spool (19) is adjusted in the control line (64) of the stop valve (47) in order to restrict, as a function thereof, the lowering flow through the stop valve and thus obtain regulation of the volumetric flow independently of load pressure. <IMAGE>
