[origin: EP0491166A1] Fume hood having a box-shaped housing which in the interior bounds a working space (17) and is open at the front. A fume extraction device is connected to the working space via an extraction opening. An impact plate (10) is arranged in front of the extraction opening to the working space (17) and bounds between its lower edge and the rear wall of the housing and between its upper edge and the ceiling of the housing in each case one fume extraction slot (21, 22). A sliding window (4) is provided so as to be vertically displaceable at the open front of the housing. The ceiling-side part (17a) of the working space (17) has the shape of an upwardly tapering shaft (10, 7, 8) which is composed of a part of the impact plate (7), the adjoining cover part (7) and a further cover part (8) which extends between the front edge of the cover part (7) and the upper edge (15) of the opening of the open front of the housing. <IMAGE>
