[origin: WO9104219A1] Handrails for escalators, moving sidewalks and the like consist of an endless, flexible strip (1) with a grip region (2) and guide regions (4) which slide during operation on a stationary track, and steel cables embedded in the strip (1) to act as pulling supports. In order to manufacture the handrails more simply and cheaply, the strip (1) is divided longitudinally into individual closely successive segments (5, 6, 7) with the segments shaped solidly around the steel cables (3). The segments may be shaped by injection moulding a thermoplastic elastomer around the steel cables (3).
