[origin: EP0493649A1] The invention starts from a locking device for the pivotable handle (2) of an espagnolette lock, consisting of a receiving part (3) having a receiving slot (4) extending from the top into the receiving part (3) and intended for the handle (2), and of a two-armed locking hook (5) which is pivotable about a horizontal axis and of which one arm (6), in the closing position, holds down the handle (2), arranged in the receiving slot (4), by means of a hook extension (7) and of which the other arm (8) serves for pivoting the locking hook (5) by pressing down, the locking hook (5) being pressed into the locking position by a spring (9). A novel feature of this locking device is that the receiving part (3) is designed as a housing open at the bottom, and that the pivotable locking hook (5) projects with its hook arm (6) into the housing (3) from below, whilst its actuating arm (8) projects from the housing (3) at the bottom, the pivot joint of the locking hook (5) being formed by a horizontal groove (10) in the locking hook (5) and by a strip (11) projecting into this groove and located on the housing (3), and the spring (9) being supported both on the hook arm (6) and on the opposite housing wall (12) and at the same time both keeping the locking hook (5) in the locking position and pressing the locking hook (5) by means of its groove (10) against the strip (11) on the housing (3). <IMAGE>
