[origin: EP0493665A2] The invention relates to a heat exchanger having tubes (12) provided with a multiplicity of gills (32). It is proposed to introduce recesses (40, 41) into the gill (12) in the region of high temperatures. It is possible in this way to achieve a more uniform temperature distribution and as small as possible a maximum temperature difference on the gill. Furthermore, it is proposed for the purpose of producing the gill (32) to proceed from a standardised basic gill and to punch out recesses (40, 41, 48) subsequently for the purpose of matching to the performance of the heat exchanger within a range of heat exchangers, or of influencing the heat flux. <IMAGE>
