To improve in particular the visibility in wet conditions, it is proposed by the invention that the marking material (4) be applied sprinkled in the form of island-like blobs, the marking material (4) being pressurised with compressed air before striking the ground in order to produce the marking blobs, in such a way that the marking material (4) is torn apart and the resulting drops are flung onto the road. <IMAGE>
