Abstract (en)

[origin: DE3932282A1] The invention concerns a device with two parallel opening rollers (2, 4) which rotate in the same direction and are mounted substantially horizontally above grid segments (12, 14) in a housing (3), the zones of action (36, 38) of these rollers almost touching each other. The device has an inlet tube (8) mounted to face tangentially one end of the first roller (2) in the fibre transport direction plus an outlet tube (30) projecting horizontally out of the opposite side of the housing (3), a stream of air (6, 34) carrying the fibres in and out. The invention calls for the fibre material to be passed vertically down through the inlet tube (8) on to the side of the first opening roller (2) remote from the second opening roller (4), between the housing (3) and the first opening roller (2). The invention also calls for the direction of rotation of the first roller (2) to be away from the second roller (4) in the fibre-entry zone and coincident with the direction in which the fibre falls in the peripheral zone at the wall of the housing (3). In addition, the outlet tube (30) projects from the housing (3) axially between and above the rollers (2, 4).
