[origin: EP0494815A1] System for measuring motor vehicle traffic on a route, comprising at least two measurement stations (A and B) spaced out along the said route, characterised in that each measurement station comprises a triggering detector (3) emitting an infrared laser beam and detecting the reflected beam, an infrared light projector (4) directing a beam onto the moving vehicles, a camera (5) whose shutter is controlled by the signal from the triggering detector (3) and supplying a video signal to an image analysis and data processing system (8) which analyses the registration plates of the vehicles in such a way as to identify them and calculates the transit time of the vehicles. <IMAGE>
