Abstract (en)

[origin: EP0496726A2] Method and installation for continuous manufacture of wire coiled into rings, in which a continuous cast material strand is rolled to form a wire with predetermined cross section and the wire emerging from the roll stand (4,5,6) is first rapidly and briefly cooled in order to form a martensitic or bainitic surface layer and also a core zone of the wire material with a higher temperature than the temperature of the surface layer, whereupon the wire is allowed to stay in a succeeding equalisation zone (7) until the quenched surface layer has been annealed by the supply of heat, and a finishing agented wire length is then formed, without tension or twist, into a ring and the immediately adjacent wire finishing agenting length is deflected and likewise formed, without tension or twist, into the ring. <IMAGE>
