[origin: EP0497149A1] A pivotable gripping support for disabled persons for installation in sanitary rooms, having a fastener (10) which is to be mounted on a wall and to which an extension arm-type pivotable grip (30), which can be pivoted upwards from an essentially horizontal position of use, is hinged via a joint (16) with a horizontal pivot axis, and having a spring (62) for compensating the pivoting-back moment of the pivotable grip (30) produced by the weight thereof. For easy operability of the pivotable grip (30) and for avoiding changes to the operating forces caused by dirt and wear, the spring used is a gas pressure spring (62) which is arranged in a tube formed by the pivotable grip (30) and whose first abutment (50) is connected to the tube (32) and whose second abutment (70) is connected to the fastener (10). In this case, the pivot axis of the grip joint (16) lies above the line of action of the force of the gas pressure spring, and the gas pressure spring (62) is connected to the second abutment (70) via a second joint (68) with a horizontal axis. <IMAGE>
