[origin: EP0498187A1] The present invention relates to a clay gun for machines for plugging tapping holes in shaft furnaces. Such a gun comprises a cylindrical clay chamber (10), a nose (12) of reduced cross-section and a frustoconical piece (14) connecting the clay chamber to the nose, as well as a hydraulic piston which slides into the chamber to eject the plugging mass through the nose. The nose (12) is connected to the frustoconical piece (14) by means of at least one hinge so that it is possible to open the nose by pivoting. This possibility of pivoting the nose (12) necessarily implies the presence of a joint (16) between the nose (12) and the piece (14). In the present invention, the joint (16) is profiled in the shape of a "V" and is formed by a joint surface (18) of pointed cross-section and a complementary adjacent joint surface (20) of hollow cross-section. <IMAGE>
