[origin: EP0500019A1] The system has a container (1) for receiving water or an ice-water mixture, an outflow connection (5) for drawing cold water out of the container, a backflow connection (7) for the return of warm water to the system, an ice-producing device or water cooling device (3), in an arrangement feeding ice produced therein and any excess water to the container, and a circulation duct (12) with a suction connection (10) on the container (1) for the circulation, which can be shut off, of water from the container via the ice-producing device. The backflow connection (7) and the suction connection (10) are arranged on the container (1) such that the warm water entering from the backflow connection (7) flows directly to the suction connection (10) when the circulation is open and to the container (1) when the circulation is shut off. The backflow connection (7) and the suction connection (10) are expediently arranged in the deepest region of the container, and a device for treatment with a gas (13) is provided.
