Abstract (en)
[origin: WO9204807A1] A microwave oven (10) combined with convention heater (s) includes first and second chambers (12, 13) separated from one another by a partition including first and second spaced panels (14, 15) defining a cavity (20) therebetween. These panels (14, 15) are metallic, except where the waveguide passes through rectangular gaps in them, in which are situated non-metallic, infrared-absorbing panels (27, 28). A microwave generator in the second chamber (13) generates microwaves for heating a product in the first chamber (12). A stream of cooling air reduces the temperature within the cavity (20) to insulate the second chamber (13) from heat emitted from the first chamber (13) in operation of the conventional heater(s). The infrared absorbing panels (27, 28) permit passage of microwaves through the partition to the first chamber (12) for microwave heating of the product while absorbing infrared radiation from the hot first chamber (12) that would otherwise travel back through the waveguide and thermally damage the heat-sensitive microwave generator.
