[origin: EP0501371A2] An elongated lighting fixture has a lighting fixture housing (11) and a trough (12) covering the latter and made from a transparent material. A socket holder (13) for at least one fluorescent lamp (16) is accommodated inside the lighting fixture housing (11), and the trough (12) is locked in the closed position by means of a slide displaceable in the longitudinal direction of the housing (11). In addition, there is provided inside the lighting fixture housing (11) a switch (27) which is opened upon unlocking of the trough (12), so that the flow of current to the fluorescent lamp is interrupted. In order to prevent actuation of the slide (37) turning on the switch, a drive element (29) is provided which actuates the switch (27) and has a lug (33) provided with a latching element. A mating piece corresponding to the latching element is provided on the socket holder, so that the drive element (29) is retained in the off position after opening of the trough. The latching element on the lug (33) is a cutout (34) and that on the socket holder (13) is a nose (23), or vice versa, which engages in the cutout (34) in the locked state. Upon insertion of the trough (12), the lug (33) is brought out of engagement with the nose (23) by means of a projection (35) integrally formed on the trough. <IMAGE>
