[origin: WO9203288A1] A printable paper coating composition containing inorganic particulate such as calcium carbonate particles, an aqueous latex binder such as carboxylated styrenebutadiene copolymer and, optionally, one or more conventional additives further contains a water-insoluble, liquid aromatic compound possessing at least one hydroxyl, ether and/or ester substituent, e.g., 4-allyl-2-methoxyphenol (eugenol) and/or 1,2-dimethoxybenzene (veratrole), to improve the wet rub, dry pick and/or wet pick of the composition as applied to paper.
