Abstract (en)
Polyester fibres and filaments which have carboxyl end groups protected by reaction with carbodiimides are described, in which - the protection of the carboxyl end groups has mainly been carried out by reaction with mono- and/or biscarbodiimides which are contained in the fibres and filaments in free form only in an amount from 30 to 200 ppm, relative to the weight of the polyester, - the content of free carboxyl end groups is less than 3 meq/kg of polyester and - at least a further 0.02% by weight of at least one free polycarbodiimide or a reaction product with still reactive carbodiimide groups are contained in the fibres and filaments, and a process for their preparation. The filaments described are particularly suitable for the preparation of paper machine screens.

Beschrieben werden Polyesterfasern und -filamente, die durch Umsetzung mit Carbodiimiden verschlossene Carboxylendgruppen aufweisen, wobei der Verschluß der Carboxylendgruppen überwiegend durch Umsetzung mit Mono- und/oder Bis-carbodiimiden erfolgte, die in den Fasern und Filamenten in freier Form nur in einer Menge von 30 bis 200 ppm, bezogen auf das Gewicht des Polyesters enthalten sind, der Gehalt an freien Carboxylendgruppen weniger als 3 mVal/kg Polyester beträgt und in den Fasern und Filamenten wenigstens noch 0,02 Gewichtsprozent wenigstens eines freien Polycarbodiimids oder eines Reaktionsproduktes mit noch reaktionsfähigen Carbodiimid-Gruppen enthalten sind, sowie ein Verfahren zu deren Herstellung. Die beschriebenen Filamente eignen sich besonders zur Herstellung von Papiermaschinensieben.
