[origin: EP0504463A1] A circuit arrangement (1) for current limiting, which has a main current path (2) with at least one contact point (3) having an arc extinguishing region (4) from which a branch (7) is led away to an external connection (8). The branch (7) is connected, via a contact means (6), in the region which is filled with electrically conductive arc plasma when the contact gap is opened. The gaps between in each case one contact of the contact point (3) and the contact means (6) determined the voltage on the input side and on the output side during switching off. The contact point (3), or the contact points, of the main current path (2) is/are bridged by a parallel branch (15) having a further contact point (16), delayed trip devices (18) and a current-limiting resistor (17), a contact of the further contact point (16) being controlled by the delayed trip device (18). The output side is decoupled from the input side, on the output side, current and voltage intrusions for load branches during switching off being prevented. <IMAGE>
