Abstract (en)
The capstan (10) for handling cables (100) includes a central hub (200) provided with means for rotating about an axis D. According to the invention, the said capstan comprises, at the periphery of the said central hub, a plurality of recentering modules (300) each including a conveyor belt (310) arranged between two parallel cylinders. All the conveyor belts form a drum for the said capstan and the said drum has a winding zone (Z) intended to receive cable turns (110). One of the cylinders of each recentering module (300) is coupled to a driving motor (330) provided for moving the said conveyor belt in each direction parallel to the axis D of rotation of the central hub, and a device (410, 420) for controlling the position of the cables during the winding operates, in a synchronous manner, the said driving motors so as to move the conveyor belts in order to keep, by recentering effect, the said turns in the winding zone of the said capstan drum. Application to the general field of the handling of cables, and, more particularly, of fragile cables used in marine seismology. <IMAGE>

Cabestan (10) pour la manutention de câbles (100), comprend un moyeu central (200) muni de moyens de rotation autour d'un axe D. Selon l'invention, ledit cabestan comporte, à la périphérie dudit moyeu central, une pluralité de modules de recentrage (300) comprenant chacun une bande transporteuse (310) disposée entre deux cylindres parallèles. L'ensemble des bandes transporteuses forment un tambour pour ledit cabestan et ledit tambour présente une zone d'enroulement (Z) destinée à recevoir des spires (110) de câbles. L'un des cylindres de chaque module de recentrage (300) est accouplé à un moteur d'entraînement (330) prévu pour déplacer ladite bande transporteuse dans chaque sens parallèlement à l'axe D de rotation du moyeu central, et un dispositif de contrôle (410, 420) de position des câbles en cours d'enroulement commande, de façon synchrone, lesdits moteurs d'entraînement de manière à déplacer les bandes transporteuses afin de maintenir, par effet de recentrage, lesdites spires dans la zone d'enroulement dudit tambour de cabestan. Application au domaine général de la manutention de câbles, et plus particulièrement de câbles fragiles utilisés en sismique marine. <IMAGE>
