[origin: WO9203115A1] An evacuation or rescue device (100) for a bed-ridden or non-ambulatory person (103) adapted to quickly secure the person (103) to a movable underlying mattress (109) or the like comprises two sheets (101, 101') deployable one from the head-end and one from the foot-end. When deployed the head-end sheet (101') meets the foot-end sheet (101) over the person's chest or head. The two sheets (101, 101') which are interconnected underneath the mattress (109) are then tightened downwardly over the long sides of the mattress (109) by means of looped ropes (105) pulled one from the head-end side and the other from the foot-end side. The ropes (105) are self cleating when tightened and quickly secure the person (103) in readiness for rescue and evacuation by a single individual if necessary.
