[origin: EP0505615A1] The grinding wheel, which is designed as a cup grinding wheel (1), supports segments (10) on its cylinder-shaped outer face, which segments are divided by grooves (12, 14). These segments are coated with abrasive grains (16). In order to supply the grooves and segments, respectively the abrasive grains (16), with coolant, with a low degree of technical complexity, it is provided that, on the inner face of the grinding wheel, annular flutes (20, 22), which cut the grooves (12, 14), are arranged so that coolant channels (18) are created, it being advantageous if the grooves (12, 14) cut each other cross-wise and run at an angle to the outside edge of the grinding wheel (1). It is thus possible, even in the case of a large number of comparatively small surface segments, to obtain a uniform cooling. This is improved if the grooves (12) running parallel to each other are deeper than the grooves (14) which cut across them and the flutes (20, 22) only cut the deeper grooves (12). <IMAGE>
