In a burner for burning liquid fuel, in particular light fuel oil, - with an inner housing which surrounds a fuel pipe and in which primary combustion air can be conveyed, - with an outer housing which surrounds the inner housing at least partially and in which secondary combustion air can be conveyed, - with a housing opening of the inner housing, in the region of which a nozzle tip is arranged at the end of the fuel pipe, - it being possible to generate with the nozzle tip a fuel atomising cone, into which the primary and secondary combustion air can be introduced, - with a covering element which is movable in relation to openings in the outer and/or the inner housing, for changing the cross-section of the openings, and which is connected to a valve which controls the supply of the quantity of fuel to the fuel pipe, it is proposed that the valve has, in a valve housing, a displaceable rod piston, that there is arranged on the housing inside a projecting flange which surrounds the outside of the rod piston, and that the rod piston has on at least a part of its length a groove which is provided with variable depth over its length and which is not closed by the inside of the flange, which covers it. <IMAGE>

Brenner zum Verfeuern von flüssigem Brennstoff insbesondere leichtem Heizöl, mit einem Innengehäuse (7), das eine Brennstoffleitung (8) umgibt und in dem primäre Verbrennungsluft förderbar ist, mit einem das Innengehäuse wenigstens teilweise umgebenden Außengehäuse (14), in dem sekundäre Verbrennungsluft förderbar ist, mit einer Gehäuseöffnung (9) des Innengehäuses, in deren Bereich ein Düsenkopf (1) am Ende der Brennstoffleitung angeordnet ist, wobei mit dem Düsenkopf ein Brennstoff-Zerstäubungskegel (16) erzeugbar ist, in den hinein die primäre und sekundäre Verbrennungsluft einleitbar sind, mit einem gegenüber Öffnungen (19) beweglichen Überdeckungselement (2) zur Veränderung des Querschnittes der Öffnungen, das über ein Gestänge (32) mit einem die Zufuhr der Brennstoffmenge zur Brennstoffleitung steuernden Ventil (30) verbunden ist. <IMAGE>
