[origin: EP0508298A2] The slide switch has a base body (1) with contact elements (2, 3) which are embedded in pairs and, on the top, form in each case a fixed contact (4) and a sprung contact arm (5). A slide (6) having a U-shaped cross-section covers the contact arm and the complete base body by means of lateral guide arms (6b) and is supported by means of a sliding guide in the longitudinal direction of the contact arm such that it can be displaced on lateral guide ribs of the base body. When the contact is open, the contact arm is largely free of tension, while it is pressed against the fixed contact (4) by means of a switching cam (10) and a bend (11) for closing the contact. In consequence, the contact elements and the base body are largely free of tension when the contact is open, as a result of which deformation is prevented in the event of high temperature stress during surface mounting. In addition, the slide is easily accessible for manual operation even if the switch has very small dimensions, and the switching state can easily be identified by the position of the slide. <IMAGE>
