An explosion-proof electrical switch has at least one contact point (21, 22) which is accommodated in a switching apparatus (14) having a switching apparatus housing which encloses a space (19, 20) which is encapsulated in a pressure-proof manner. The contact point (21, 22) is operated by means of a spark-proof operating plunger (27) which is inserted into the switching apparatus housing, and the switching apparatus housing is inserted into a surrounding housing (10) of enhanced safety. The surrounding housing (10), which is composed of a housing lower part (11) and a housing upper part (12), carries the switching apparatus housing on the inner surface of the base wall of the housing lower part (11). At least one operating rocker (36), which projects with a projection (38, 39) through the housing upper part (12) into the interior of the surrounding housing (10), is supported on the outside of the housing upper part (12) such that it can rotate. Ein explosionsgeschützter elektrischer Schalter besitzt wenigstens eine Kontaktstelle (21, 22) , die in einem Schaltgerät (14) mit einem einen druckfest gekapselten Raum (19, 20) umschließenden Schaltgerätegehäuse untergebracht ist. Die Kontaktstelle (21, 22) wird mittels eines zünddurchschlagssicher in das Schaltgerätegehäuse eingeführten Betätigungsstößels (27) betätigt, und das Schaltgerätegehäuse ist in ein Umgehäuse (10) erhöhter Sicherheit eingesetzt. Das Umgehäuse (10), das aus einem Gehäuseunterteil (11) und einem Gehäuseoberteil (12) zusammengesetzt ist, trägt an der Innenfläche der Bodenwand des Gehäuseunterteils (11) das Schaltgerätegehäuse. Auf der Außenseite des Gehäuseoberteils (12) ist wenigstens eine Betätigungswippe (36) drehbar gelagert, die mit einem Fortsatz (38, 39) durch das Gehäuseoberteil (12) hindurch ins Innere des Umgehäuses (10) hineinragt. Zur Betätigung der Kontaktstelle (19, 20) bzw. eines Betätigungsstößels (27) für die Kontaktstelle befindet sich am freien, im Umgehäuse (10) befindlichen Ende des Fortsatzes (38, 39) ein Zwischenglied (40) mit wenigstens einer Nocke (58, 59), wobei die Nocke (58, 59) bei Verschwenkung der Betätigungswippe (36) den Betätigungsstößel (27) zur Ausführung einer Schalthandlung verschiebt. <IMAGE>
