[origin: EP0508483A2] A shelf element (1), especially a sales counter, has a shelf (2) with sockets (22) for inserting supports (4) of a next higher, identical shelf (2). The shelf element (1) itself is provided with supports (4). They can be pivoted out of their supporting position substantially up to contact below the shelf (2). Two of four supports (4) are arranged in each case on an axle (3) of relatively large diameter with different spacing from its ends. The two axles (3) are arranged on the shorter sides of the rectangular shelf (2). The supports already mounted on one side of the shelf element are simply opened out or folded in for erecting and collapsing the shelf respectively. In the collapsed state, they do not individually "hang loose". Furthermore, the shelf element allows the further application as a folding table. It can be carried with the supports folded in and the supports can then be opened out to stand it up. In this case, an object can already be standing on it, such that the third application as a tray is possible. <IMAGE>
