With the method according to the invention, relatively large metal parts with a high degree of stability and low weight can be produced by bending a sheet into a ring (100) and joining the ends of the sheet together, by stamping peripheral elevations and depressions (105, 106) in the sheet-metal ring thus formed by means of rolls (131..136) arranged inside and outside the sheet metal, the cooperating profiles of which rolls are adapted to the elevations and depressions to be produced, and by moving the rolls simultaneously in the radial direction and parallel to the axis of the sheet-metal ring during the stamping operation, so that the sheet-metal ring is stretched or compressed only in the radial direction. <IMAGE>
