[origin: EP0509198A2] Two types of hair curlers are presented. The first hair curler is curved in its longitudinal direction at least along one portion in such a way that its surface lines do not run axially symmetrically to the centre line in a sectional plane running through its centre line. In the radial section through its mid-axis, the hair curler has an elliptical cross section. In the longitudinal direction, the ellipse radii vary periodically or non-periodically, but the ellipse circumference remains constant. The second hair curler is curved in its longitudinal direction at least along one portion. Relative to the overall length of the curler, the curving forms between one half of a turn and three turns. A sectional plane running radially through the mid-axis of the hair curler has an elliptical shape with a constant circumference. The larger ellipse diameter is at most four times as large as the smaller one. Using the two hair curlers, loop-free flat curling is possible and hair waving which largely corresponds to natural hair waving. <IMAGE>
